Lumi Fellows · Founding cohort

The first hundred students shaping how a generation learns.

Lumi is selecting its founding cohort of Fellows: a select network of students helping build and spread a new generation of AI-powered learning — and shaping it early enough that their fingerprints end up on the product.

What is Lumi Fellows?

A select network of students helping build and spread a new generation of AI-powered learning. Fellows aren’t spectators — they’re inside the company’s feedback loop, carrying Lumi into their schools and telling us what students actually need.

Introduce Lumi

Put Lumi in front of students who'd genuinely benefit — your year group, your subjects, the people stressing about the same exams you are.

Tell us what students need

You're closer to the classroom than we are. What confuses people, what they wish existed, what makes them switch off — that goes straight into the product.

Share ideas and feedback

Test early features, poke holes in them, suggest what should exist. Fellows see things before anyone else and say so when they're not good enough.

Join campaigns and challenges

Occasional Lumi initiatives — launches, exam-season pushes, creative challenges. Opt in when it suits, skip when it doesn't.

Build awareness where you are

Your school, sixth form, college or university. Group chats, common rooms, societies, a stand at an open evening — whatever actually works locally.

Join the network

A growing group of ambitious students across the UK — people you'll share ideas with now and quite possibly work with later.

Not just posting for likes.

This isn’t a scheme where you spam a code and call it marketing. Fellows is about community, leadership, product feedback and growth — the actual work of an early-stage company, done flexibly alongside your studies.

Who it’s for.

There’s no one shape of Fellow. If any of these sound like you, you’re probably the kind of person this was built for.

Students into technology

Curious about AI, startups and where education is heading — and want to see it from the inside, not from a TikTok about it.

Future entrepreneurs

If you want to build something of your own one day, this is a front-row seat to how an early-stage company actually grows.

Student leaders

Societies, clubs, councils, mentoring, events — you already run things and people already listen to you.

Creators & communicators

You naturally share ideas, make things or hold a network together, online or offline. That instinct is the job.

Ambitious students

You want to build things, meet interesting people and have something real to point to — not another line of padding on a UCAS form.

Credible voices in your subject

Education, medicine, STEM, business — students who already carry weight in academic communities and can open doors in them.

What Fellows get.

Real access, real experience and real recognition — the kind of thing that’s genuinely hard for a student to get anywhere else.

  • Official Founding Lumi Fellow recognition — the title stays yours
  • A personalised Lumi Fellow certificate
  • A private, Fellows-only community space on Discord
  • A direct line to the Lumi team and the founders
  • Real influence on what gets built — your feedback goes into the roadmap
  • Early access to new features and experiments before anyone else
  • Lumi Pro access while you're a Fellow
  • Recognition as you hit milestones and contribute
  • Earned progression into further Lumi opportunities — paid roles and internships are considered for Fellows who've shown what they can do

Progression is earned, not guaranteed — opportunities like paid roles and internships are considered for Fellows who’ve shown what they can do, never promised on day one.

How Fellows progress.

Everyone starts as a Founding Fellow. What you earn from there is up to you — three tiers, and the milestones are real.

01

Founding Fellow

Selected into the founding cohort.

You're in. The title, the community, the early access — and the fact you were one of the first hundred students ever chosen.

02

Campus Leader

Earned through meaningful activation in your community.

You've got Lumi moving where you are — students onboard, feedback flowing, a real presence at your school or uni. Recognition, a bigger voice in the programme, and first in line for new opportunities.

03

Lumi Pioneer

The highest recognition, for exceptional contribution.

Reserved for Fellows who've gone well beyond — the people who've visibly moved Lumi forward. Pioneers get the deepest access we can offer.

The milestone that matters most

Activate 100 students through your link.

Every Fellow gets a unique link. Reach a hundred activated students through yours and you may be invited to spend time at Lumi’s offices for an in-person experience — and considered for a paid internship or opportunity with us. It’s an invitation to be earned, not a promise made: but it’s a real one, and it’s on the table for every Fellow from day one.

Exceptional Fellows may also be introduced to people across Lumi’s wider professional network, where it genuinely helps what you’re building towards.

Why Lumi

You’re joining early enough to actually change what gets built.

Lumi is building a fundamentally different way for students to learn: a tutor you talk to, that draws the working out in front of you and explains it a different way until it lands. Not another content library — a real attempt at giving every student the explanation that finally makes it click.

Companies at this stage don’t stay this shape for long. The feedback Fellows give now decides what exists in a year. The communities you build now are the ones everything else grows out of. This is the beginning of something — and the founding cohort is the part of it that gets to say they were there first.

Founding cohort · 100 Fellows

A hundred places. Then the founding cohort closes.

This isn’t scarcity theatre — the first cohort is small because we’re building the programme with the people in it. Names, schools and the leaderboard land here as Fellows are selected.

Slot one is the application you haven’t sent yet.

What you’ll actually do.

No fixed hours, no shift rota — Fellows fits around school rather than competing with it. In practice, it looks like this:

  • Introduce Lumi to students it would genuinely help
  • Gather honest feedback from the students around you
  • Help test new features before they ship
  • Share Lumi with relevant communities at your school, sixth form, college or uni
  • Join occasional challenges and campaigns — always optional
  • Think creatively about how Lumi could help students locally

Your own exams always come first. Every Fellow is a student — we’d be a strange learning company if we forgot that.

Apply to become a Lumi Fellow.

We’re selecting the founding cohort now, and every application is read individually. There are 100 places — when they’re gone, the founding cohort is closed for good.

It opens as an email to us with your answers in it — press send and it's in. Prefer to write it yourself? careers@trylumi.co

Before you ask us.

No — and we won't dress that up. Fellows is a selective programme, not a job: what you get is the title, the community, Lumi Pro, early access, a direct line to the team and real startup experience. Contribution is what earns progression — including consideration for paid roles and internships for Fellows who've proven what they can do. If you want guaranteed monthly pay instead, our Student Ambassador role on the careers page is the better fit.

As much as you want to put in. There's no fixed hours and nobody chasing you — going quiet during your own exams is expected, not frowned upon. The Fellows who get the most out of it are the ones who treat it like the opportunity it is.

No. We'd rather have someone who can genuinely reach two hundred students who are actually revising than someone with a hundred thousand followers who aren't. Tell us what you could realistically do and judge it honestly.

There are 100 founding places, and every application is read by a person. We're not looking for a CV-shaped person — we're looking for specific plans, real reach and genuine energy. If it looks like a fit we'll invite you to a short chat.

Yes. Most of the founding cohort will be sixth formers. If you're under 18 we'll just need a parent or guardian to sign off before you start.

A person reads it — not a filter. Applications are reviewed individually, and if yours looks like a fit we'll invite you to a short conversation before confirming your place in the cohort.

No card. No countdown.
